Education VICÂ introduces St Mary's High School Gateshead in Gateshead, for all your education and learning needs.
St Mary's High School was opened in January 1964. The parish priest of Gateshead, the late Monsignor Roger Kennedy, responding to the longings of his parishioners for a high school for their daughters to attend, enlisted the cooperation of the Sisters of St Joseph who owned the land on which the school was built.
Since then, the school has developed into a year 7 to 10 co-educational school enrolling students from the suburbs of Gateshead, Charlestown, Windale, Belmont, Warners Bay and Swansea. Children from Catholic Primary Schools in these suburbs - St Paul's Gateshead, St Joseph's Charlestown, St Pius X Windale, St Francis Xavier's Belmont, St Mary's Warners Bay and St Patrick's Swansea are zoned to enrol at St Mary's.
We honour and try to uphold the commitment to social justice instilled in the first school community and nurtured during the schools formative years by our founding order the Sisters of St Joseph.
Our School Feast Day is celebrated each year on March 25th - the Feast of the Annunciation.
The motto of the school is based on the text from St Luke's Gospel "Behold I am the servant of the Lord", (Luke 1:38) which was Mary's response to the invitation to become the mother of Jesus. Our translation of the text "Ready to Serve" is at the centre of all we do at St Mary's and all we try to give witness to in our day to day relationships with each other.
