Macintyre High School is located in the progressive and picturesque city of Inverell, on the western edge of the northern tablelands of New South Wales. The school enjoys a reputation for high academic achievement and excellence in sport, technology and cultural pursuits.

Built in 1973, it has modern, well-equipped laboratories, classrooms, computer rooms and Novell and Windows NT networks. Recent improvements include the continuing maintenance and upgrading of an administrative area, conference centre and art gallery, and the upgrading of grounds and playground.
