Waratah Public School is an inner city school located in a large and leafy bushland setting, which boasts a rich tradition that continues to this day. This school has a most interesting history, and can look back on many notable achievements. Originally known as Hanbury School, it was opened in 1864 with an enrolment of 83 pupils, the first Head Master being Mr. William Mathews. Down through the years, names of very many of its early pupils as well as more recent ones, are conspicuous in business and professional circles in Newcastle and the Hunter Valley.Welcome to Waratah Public School one of the popular educators in your Waratah area. Our aim is help you in your learning journey.
We endeavour to celebrate each other’s uniqueness by providing opportunity for all and to develop a culture that identifies that the journey towards excellence is often paved with trial and error, risk taking, learning from mistakes, flexibility and adaptability. We believe that encouraging students to take ownership of the learning is critical in achieving the best learning outcomes and that implicit in this concept is that students learn their own areas of strength and areas of development, through useful and explicit feedback.
