Education VICÂ introduces Cannington Community College in Cannington, for all your education and learning needs.
Cannington Community College is located 12 km from the Perth CBD and is close to
the City of Canning's commercial precinct and major bus and train routes. Most of the students are drawn from the local area, however the trend for student enrolments outside the area is increasing. The ethnic diversity of Cannington has increased in recent years and this contributes to the richness of the educational experience at the College. Urban redevelopment is bringing many new families into the area.
Cannington Community College emerged from a Local Area Education Planning initiative that saw the amalgamation of Cannington Primary School and the lower secondary component of Cannington Senior High School. The College opened in 2001.
The College caters for the diverse educational needs of students from Kindergarten to Year 10. Year 10 students leaving the College have priority enrolment at the nearby Sevenoaks Senior College. The Cannington Community Education Support Centre is co-located within the College and has its own principal and staff.
The College facilities include an innovative Arts and Technology & Enterprise building which comprises a performing arts centre, music rooms, a science laboratory, a visual arts centre, food and textiles rooms, an industrial arts workshop and two computing laboratories. There are also three general learning area clusters which include two multipurpose laboratories and three mini-computing laboratories. A well equipped library is available to all students and staff. The Primary School classes are located in the former Cannington Primary School Buildings.
The College's Information and Communications Technology infrastructure is very comprehensive and is regularly expanded and upgraded. Students and staff have ready access to high quality ICT facilities.
The College comprises five Home Schools. Each Home School is led by a Team Leader who is responsible for providing educational leadership to a core team of teachers. The five home schools are arranged vertically to include students from approximately three year levels. In 2013 we have Rising Stars (K-2), Odyssey (3-7) and Titans, Phoenix and Spartans (each 8-10).
